Between 11–13 September 2015, the “In the Light of the Cross” exhibition of Orthodox icons was hosted at the “Sfânta Treime” Parish in Düsseldorf.
The icons by artists Ana Sălăgean and Cosmin Pol highlighted the suffering of martyrs in communist prisons and captured the essence of Christian life marked by the weight, yet also the joy, of the cross.
The icons also reminded us of the need to embrace and confess our faith, explicitly encouraging the spiritual valorization of the Orthodox treasure.
The priest underlined that the only path to healing in community is self-denial, fully embracing one’s neighbor as the image of God and serving them in accordance with the commandment of love. He also noted the degrading effects on those who give themselves over to bodily self-love, which leads to the loss of salvation. Serving priests from neighboring parishes also attended the exhibition and talk: Fr. Ioan Hodoș (Essen), Fr. Dr. Ispas Ruja (Dortmund), Fr. Nicolae Abuziloae (Duisburg), and Fr. Cătălin Preda (Bonn).
The two events were a great blessing for the participants and a fruitful spiritual preparation for the Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross.
