On Sunday, 10 December 2023, after the Divine Liturgy, the Düsseldorf parish held the Traditional Feast of St. Hierarch Nicholas, the parish’s second patronal feast. As every year, the feast of St. Nicholas is dedicated to children and the festive event organized by Sunday School.
Sunday School is a long-running project of our parish, now in its 11th year of activity, and is one of the pillars of our pastoral work and a spiritual and social refuge for participating children. This is thanks to the devoted efforts of teachers Ioana Pașca and Simona Ilea Pop, both members of the Romanian Teachers Association in NRW.
This year, the St. Nicholas celebration focused on the light people can bring into the world when they keep faith, hope, and love burning—and through them, all the other virtues. Both the teen group and the preschool/primary group offered individual contributions that shared with those present the joy of awaiting the Nativity of the Lord with a pure heart.
The St. Nicholas gifts were offered entirely by members of the Romanian Doctors Association in NRW: www.amedro-nrw.de.
“Our children need the right contexts to grow spiritually. They want to be seen, appreciated, and encouraged to do beautiful things. That is why caring for the spiritual growth of those who represent the future of our Church is an essential condition of any authentic Orthodox pastoral care.”
