The Association of Romanian Doctors in North Rhine-Westphalia, AMEDRO-NRW e.V., organized the project "Be a Guardian Angel, Save a Life!" on Saturday, 21 February 2026, in the conference hall of the Holy Trinity Parish in Düsseldorf. The course focused on first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) for children aged 7 to 16.
The event lasted about three hours and was a real success, bringing together 19 children eager to learn how to intervene correctly and effectively in emergency situations. The project aimed to provide participants with essential practical knowledge and life-saving skills.
In the first part of the course, PD Dr. med. Raluca Mincu presented immediate cardiopulmonary resuscitation measures (BLS - Basic Life Support), according to the latest international guidelines.
Dr. med. Dumitrița Gafencu then presented general first aid measures for common emergencies, including fainting, loss of consciousness, road accidents, drowning, falls from height, electric shock, wounds, and fractures.
The practical component was central to the course. The children were divided into four teams and instructed, trained, and evaluated by four dedicated physician-trainers. Participants learned the steps of initial assessment, how to check consciousness and vital signs, how to place a correct emergency call to 112, and how to use the recovery position. Practical exercises included BLS maneuvers on two professional mannequins, applying dressings, and immobilization techniques using splints.
Through active participation and enthusiasm, the children showed that age is not a barrier when it comes to responsibility and willingness to help.
Special thanks go to the doctors who organized this event: PD Dr. med. Raluca Mincu and Dr. med. Dumitrița Gafencu. We also thank the collaborators, supervisors, and evaluators: Dr. Filora Georgescu, Dr. med. Iulia Georgiana Ionaș, and Dr. Laurențiu Gafencu.
Through initiatives like this, AMEDRO-NRW e.V. actively contributes to forming a generation that is more responsible, better prepared, and more engaged in supporting the community.
