On Friday, 13 December 2024, the Romanian Doctors Association in NRW together with the Romanian Teachers Association in NRW organized the event “Romanians in the World. 35 Years of Freedom.”
The evening opened with a musical moment by Luiza Portier, who performed a series of Romanian carols on the viola, followed by welcome remarks from the two presidents, Prof. Simona Pop and Dr. Laurențiu Gafencu.
The special guest was Prof. Dr. Adrian Cioroianu, former foreign minister of Romania and director of the National Library of Romania. He delivered a lecture on Romania’s evolution over the past 35 years, highlighting historic decisions that spurred Romania’s rapid development and the prospects for fruitful growth of the Romanian diaspora. Prof. Cioroianu also answered several audience questions.
The official program concluded with a carol recital by soloists Cezar Baltag, Nicolae Ilincăi, Sergiu Garabajii, Andres Groza, Cătălin Moței, and Ștefan Muț.
The festive evening was graced by Rainer Lehni, President of the Transylvanian Saxons Association in Germany; Fr. Gabriel Sacrieriu; Fr. Siluan Cârstea; and Fr. Teodor Tăbuș, representing various Romanian Orthodox communities in NRW; Johanna Boss, vice president of the Atheneum Düsseldorf Association; and many members and supporters of the two associations.
Protopresbyter Dr. Iosif Cristian Rădulescu, the event moderator, thanked everyone for their participation and contribution to the event’s success.
