Conference “Is the Romanian Village Fading? Dimitrie Gusti and the Village of Villages”

On Friday, 22 November 2019, an exceptional event dedicated to the Year of the Romanian Village was held in the Düsseldorf parish, in collaboration with the Dimitrie Gusti National Village Museum in Bucharest.

The conference “Is the Romanian Village Fading? Dimitrie Gusti and the Village of Villages,” delivered by Associate Professor Dr. Paulina Popoiu, director general of the museum, together with the exhibition “Architecture and Rural Landscapes,” turned the church into a space for reflection on the current state of the Romanian village and on the contribution each of us can make to its development and to preserving and promoting its enduring values.

Dr. Popoiu’s talk was marked by optimism. She argued for the central role of the Church over time in preserving and continually enriching the spirituality of the Romanian village. She also illustrated, with concrete examples from the museum’s work and from field research, the involvement of many educated young people in safeguarding the treasures of the Romanian village. These examples became a strong impetus for participants to find their own ways of contributing to preserving the village’s cultural heritage.
