On Sunday, 18 March 2018, the Düsseldorf parish hosted a new edition of the catechetical program “Children’s Conference” within Sunday School. Our speaker was Nicholas Zahariade, a third-grade student, who spoke to the children and teenagers about the meaning of fasting in the Orthodox tradition.
After his talk, Protopresbyter Iosif-Cristian Rădulescu engaged the children in a Q&A to deepen their understanding of the Old Testament readings from Genesis, which they had studied at home with their parents.
The Children’s Conference was appreciated by participants, who contributed actively to the program. “I especially thank the parents for their support, because without their interest the children’s participation would be impossible. I value both the involvement of the children and the conscious commitment of their parents, who truly want Orthodoxy to be a way of life in their families,” said Fr. Protopresbyter Iosif-Cristian Rădulescu, parish priest of the Orthodox community in Düsseldorf.
Sunday School is also preparing a new edition of the “First Confession” program after Pascha, as well as other social activities outside the church space. “I am convinced these children will one day remember all the attention and effort they enjoyed in the Church. It’s essential to help them feel from a young age that the Church belongs to them—that it is a place of the heart where they find God and people who care about them, who do not ignore their needs just because they are childish,” the parish priest added.
After the Children’s Conference, the children went to Confession, which they approached with great reverence.
